Daytime Work will Repair a Broken Railroad Track on MD 75 in Union Bridge

(December 28, 2021) – Emergency work by Maryland Midland Railway will close a section of MD 75 (Main Street) at the railroad crossing located north of Elger Street in Union Bridge, Carroll County on Wednesday, December 29.

Starting tomorrow at 7 a.m., crews from Maryland Midland Railway will close the roadway and begin repairs on a broken railroad track that crosses MD 75. The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will be on-site during the emergency work for inspections.

The emergency work is expected to be completed by 3 p.m. Wednesday.

During the closure, northbound and southbound motorists will be detoured using the following route from MD 75 to get back to MD 75:

  1. Shepherds Mill Road to,
  2. Quaker Hill Road to,
  3. Marble Quarry Road to,
  4. Lehigh Road to,
  5. Peter Shriner Road to,
  6. Clemsonville Road to MD 75.

Trucks are advised not to use East Locust Street as an alternate detour because the turn is not wide enough for large vehicles. Maryland Midland Railway will use electronic boards, signs, barrels and cones as directed by MDOT SHA to alert motorists about the road closure and guide them through the detour route.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.

Motorists can dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.

Editor’s Note

From intersection improvements to widening and new interchange construction, MDOT SHA is investing in projects to enhance the commute and daily travel for millions of Marylanders.  MDOT SHA maintains more than 2,500 bridges and 17,000 miles of non-toll state roads – the interstate, US and state numbered routes in Maryland’s 23 counties.
