(June 9, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is moving toward the next phase of work on its $32.6 million project to rehabilitate the four bridges on US 40 (Pulaski Highway) over Big Gunpowder Falls and Little Gunpowder Falls in eastern Baltimore County near the Harford County Line.
Weather permitting, on the nights of Sunday, June 12, and Monday, June 13, crews will remove the temporary traffic pattern splits on the US 40 bridges at Big Gunpowder Falls. In the event of inclement weather, the work will take place on the next possible night.
Once the original traffic patterns are restored on US 40 at Big Gunpowder Falls, there will be two lanes open in each direction during peak times, 5 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. However, temporary single-lane closures along eastbound or westbound US 40 will occur during the following times:
- 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays; and
- Overnights, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sundays evenings through Friday mornings.
In the coming weeks, crews will install barrels and barriers in the center of the bridges carrying traffic over Little Gunpowder Falls to create a temporary traffic split with travel lanes on each side of the bridges. The temporary traffic patterns on the bridges will not affect crossovers nor driveways along this section of US 40.
MDOT SHA’s contractor, Allan Myers – MD Inc. of Fallston, will use electronic signs, cones and barrels to alert travelers of the work zone and new traffic patterns. Motorists should plan extra travel time on this section of US 40 and look for temporary lane closures and changing traffic conditions during bridge work. The four-bridge rehabilitation project will continue through spring 2023, weather permitting. More information on the project can be found here.
