Motorists Can Expect Overnight and Morning Closures into September

(August 31, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin paving US 1 (Baltimore Avenue) from College Avenue / Regents Drive to Campus Drive next week as part of the project to improve safety and operations along US 1 in the College Park area of Prince George’s County.

Starting at 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 6, crews will begin paving US 1 from College Avenue / Regents Drive to the Campus Drive intersection. Single-lane closures will take place evenings, Monday nights through Friday mornings, for about three weeks. Crews will close one northbound lane between 8 p.m. and noon the next day and one southbound lane from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next day. Flaggers will guide motorists through the work zone.

This project to improve traffic operations and safety for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians, was first announced in June 2015 as part of Governor Larry Hogan’s $1.97 billion investment in roads and bridges.

MDOT SHA contractor Reliable Paving, of Edgewood, is completing the work. Learn more about the US 1 (Baltimore Avenue) from College Avenue to MD 193 (University Boulevard) project here.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving, and look for reduced speed limits as well as other driving pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.

Editor’s Note

From intersection improvements to widening and new interchange construction, MDOT SHA is investing in projects to enhance the commute and daily travel for millions of Marylanders.  MDOT SHA maintains more than 2,500 bridges and 17,000 miles of non-toll state roads – the interstate, US and state numbered routes in Maryland’s 23 counties.
