Shift Advances Work on Project Replacing Three Bridges

(September 23, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is moving to the next phase of its $32.5 million project to replace three bridges at the MD 151 (Sparrows Point Boulevard) / Wharf Road interchange in southeastern Baltimore County, and will shift traffic lanes next week to accommodate the continuing work.

Beginning 9 a.m. Tuesday, September 27, and continuing through Wednesday afternoon, September 28, crews will work during the day and overnight to shift northbound and southbound traffic from the future northbound side of the MD 151 bridge over Wharf Road onto the new southbound side of the bridge.

MD 151 will remain open to traffic during the shift with temporary lane closures in effect, and flagging crews will direct traffic over the bridge. Once the traffic pattern shift is complete, the bridge will remain open for two-way traffic, with temporary lane closures as construction work continues.

MDOT SHA contractor The Six-M Company Inc., of Delta, Pa., is performing the work. Weather permitting, the overall project is expected to be completed by summer 2024. For more details, click HERE

Beginning October 1, Maryland’s Move Over Law will require motorists to make a lane change or slow down when approaching any stopped, standing or parked vehicle displaying hazard warning lights, road flares or other caution signals. The expanded law is in place to protect emergency responders and motorists who encounter a roadside emergency. Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and look for reduced speed limits as well as other driving pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.
