(October 11, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin a paving project next week on MD 16 (Main Street/East New Market Ellwood Road) and MD 14 (Railroad Avenue) in East New Market, Dorchester County. The road improvements should be complete by the end of the year, weather permitting.

Beginning Monday, October 17, crews will work 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, weather permitting, to mill and pave MD 16 between Creamery Road and Cabin Creek Road and MD 14 between MD 16 and MD 392 (East New Market Bypass). Motorists can expect single-lane closures, lane shifts and flagging operations during work hours.

MDOT SHA contractor George and Lynch, of Dover, Del., will use temporary traffic signs, reflective barrels and electronic arrow boards to guide motorists through the work zone. Newly applied hot asphalt may require up to two hours to cool before drivers and pedestrians can safely travel on the new road surface. Motorists are urged to allow more travel time and can expect significant delays during work hours.

The Move Over Law in Maryland requires motorists to make a lane change or slow down when approaching any stopped, standing, or parked vehicle displaying hazard warning lights, road flares or other caution signals. The expanded law is in place to protect emergency responders and motorists who encounter a roadside emergency.
