Crews Will Close Right Lane and Shoulder for Daytime Work
(December 8, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will work on a project next Tuesday, December 13, and Wednesday, December 14, to improve lighting on a section of eastbound I-70 in Frederick County. Crews will install two new light poles between Monument Road and Mt. Tabor Drive near the South Mountain rest area.
On both days, crews will work 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. During the work hours, the right lane and shoulder of eastbound I-70 will be closed to allow crews to safely install and activate the light poles. The work is expected to be complete Wednesday.
MDOT SHA contractor Lighting Maintenance Inc., of Linthicum, will use electronic signs, barrels, cones, and arrow boards to alert motorists about the work zone and lane closures. A truck-mounted attenuator will also be used to enhance safety. MDOT SHA reminds motorists to slow down when approaching and driving through the work zone.
Maryland’s Move Over Law requires motorists to make a lane change or slow down when approaching any stopped, standing, or parked vehicle displaying hazard warning lights, road flares or other caution signals. The expanded law is in place to protect emergency responders and motorists who encounter a roadside emergency.
