Overnight Travelers Can Expect Single-Lane and Shoulder Closures

(May 12, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will start overnight work next Monday, May 15, on a project to improve the pavement on MD 97 (New Washington Road) between MD 26 (Liberty Road) and the bridge over Morgan Run (south of Nicodemus Road) near Eldersburg. The project will be complete by July, weather permitting.

Crews will patch, mill and pave 3.5 miles of MD 97. Starting at 7 p.m. Monday, crews will close a single lane and use a flagging operation to maintain traffic on MD 97 during work hours. Work will take place from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next morning, Sunday through Thursday.

The contractor, Francis O. Day Company, of Rockville, will use electronic signs, cones and barrels to alert and safely guide motorists through the work zone. The State Highway Administration understands roadwork can be an inconvenience, but is necessary to maintain a safe and reliable transportation system.

The State Highway Administration reminds motorists to remain vigilant for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcyclists. Remember motorcycles can be hidden from view in vehicle blind spots. Please look twice and save a life.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
