Temporary Overnight, Daytime Closures Scheduled for Week of May 21-26

(May 19, 2023) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will implement overnight interchange ramp and lane closures Sunday night through Friday morning, May 21-26, within the I-95/I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) interchange in the Arbutus area of Baltimore County.

The closures are required as part of the ongoing rehabilitation project for 10 bridges within the interchange. Learn more about the project here. All construction work and lane closures are weather permitting. Beginning Sunday evening, motorists can expect the following:

Overnight Lane Closures

  • Northbound and Southbound I-95 at I-695: Overnight single-lane closures begin nightly at 7 p.m., with double left-lane closures from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next day, Sunday through Thursday, May 21-25.

Overnight Ramp Closures

  • Ramp from northbound I-95 to westbound I-695 (inner loop): Closure and detour overnight, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday, May 22-25. A detour will be in place to direct motorists to proceed north past I-695, take exit ramp to westbound Caton Avenue, proceed west on Caton Avenue to southbound I-95, then to westbound I-695.
  • Ramp from southbound I-95 to eastbound I-695 (outer loop): Closure and detour overnight, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., Wednesday and Thursday, May 24-25. A detour will direct motorists to take the exit ramp to eastbound Caton Avenue prior to I-695, then proceed east on Caton Avenue to southbound US 1, then to eastbound I-695.

Daytime Lane Closures

  • Sulphur Spring Road under I-95: Lane shifts and/or lane closures with flagging operations to control two-way traffic will occur between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, May 22-26.

Contractor Wagman Heavy Civil Inc. will perform the work and will use digital message boards, temporary signs, and barrels to safely guide drivers through the area. The State Highway Administration understands the closures will inconvenience some travelers and asks motorists to please stay alert and be patient as you pass through the work zones.
