Motorists Should Expect a Detour Eastbound on Monday, October 16 and Right-Lane Closures Both Eastbound and Westbound Tuesday, October 17

(October 12, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will continue a resurfacing project on eastbound I-68 in Allegany County beginning Monday, October 16.

Crews will close and detour eastbound I-68 between exit 52 MD 144 (National Pike) to exit 56 Flintstone / MD 144 (National Pike). The detour will be in place because the depth of excavation is too deep for adjacent motorists to pass by safely. On Tuesday, October 17 there will be right lane closures both eastbound and westbound from 4:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.

This detour will take place eastbound I-68 on Monday 4 a.m.-6 p.m. and on Tuesday, both eastbound and westbound I-68 will have a right lane closure from 4:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m. Drivers should plan on additional commute time. The State Highway Administration’s contractor, Belt Paving, Inc. of Cumberland, will use detour signs and barrels to guide drivers around the work zone.

The State Highway Administration understands that roadwork will inconvenience travelers and asks all motorists to please stay alert and be patient while driving through work zones.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
