Westbound (Inner Loop) I-695 Traffic Reduced to One Lane near MD 295 Interchange; Overnight Temporary MD 170 Traffic Detours Will Begin at 9 P.M.

(October 31, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will temporarily close three right lanes along the inner loop of I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) near the MD 295 (Baltimore Washington Parkway) interchange overnight. The work has been reschduled for Wednesday night, November 8.  All lanes will be open by 5 a.m. Thursday, November 9, weather permitting.

The temporary lane closures are necessary to enable crews to safely replace an overhead highway sign. The left lane on the beltway will remain open for traffic. Additionally, crews will close the northbound and southbound MD 170 (Camp Meade Road) on-ramps to access the inner loop of I-695. Drivers will be redirected to use the following detours:

  • Northbound MD 170 drivers will be directed to MD 648 (Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard) to reach I-695.
  • Southbound MD 170 drivers will be directed to MD 169 (Maple Road), then to MD 648 to reach I-695.

The State Highway Administration understands temporary ramp and lane closures can be an inconvenience, but this work is necessary to ensure a safe and reliable transportation system. Motorists are asked to reduce speeds approaching and while in active work zones.

Customers may contact the District 5 Office at 410-841-1000 or toll-free at 1-800-331-5603 for additional information. Drivers are asked to stay alert, stay focused, look for reduced speed limits as well as driving pattern changes, and slow down in construction zones.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
