Single-Lane and Shoulder Closure Necessary for Soil Survey Work

(December 19, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will perform soil testing and borings along I-95/I-495 (Capital Beltway) and MD 4 (Pennsylvania Avenue) interchange in Forestville on Wednesday, December 20. The project will be complete by 3 p.m., weather permitting.

Drivers can expect a single left-lane and shoulder closure beginning at 9 a.m. in both directions of the Capital Beltway. Motorists are encouraged to build in additional travel time during the soil boring project.

The State Highway Administration’s contractor, Hillis-Carnes Engineering Associations, of Annapolis Junction, will use construction barrels, cones, and arrow boards to safely guide motorists through the work zone. Customers who have questions may contact the MDOT SHA District 3 Office at 301-513-7300 or toll-free at 1-800-749-0737. Drivers are asked to stay alert, stay focused, look for reduced speed limits as well as driving pattern changes, and slowdown in construction zones.
