​Overnight Resurfacing Includes Access Ramps for MD 704 and MD 202 (Landover Road); Detour Will Be in Place 

(April 4, 2024) –The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin a resurfacing project on MD 704 (Martin Luther King Jr. Highway) between Greenleaf Road and Ardwick Ardmore Road in Glenarden and MD 5 (Branch Avenue) between Old Branch Avenue and Curtis Drive in the Suitland beginning this week.

Both highway improvement projects will be complete by the end of April, weather permitting.

Beginning Sunday, April 7, crews will resurface each direction of MD 704, as well as the access ramps at MD 5. Drivers can expect single-lane closures Sundays through Thursdays 8 p.m.-5 a.m. Crews will also close the access ramps for MD 704 and MD 202 for resurfacing and traffic will be detoured to keep motorists on MD 704 or MD 702.

Electronic message boards will be in place ahead of work to advise drivers of the road conditions ahead. This work is part of the safety and mobility project currently in progress on MD 704.

State Highway Administration contractor Pessoa Construction Company Inc., of Fairmont Heights, will use construction barrels, cones, and arrow boards to safely guide drivers through the work zone on MD 704.

Crews will also resurface both directions of MD 5 (Branch Avenue) between Old Branch Avenue and Curtis Drive in the Suitland area, including the ramps from MD 5 to MD 414 (St. Barnabas Road). Drivers can expect single lane closures overnight, Sundays through Thursdays, 8 p.m.-5 a.m. This work is part of the safety and resurfacing project currently in progress ​on MD 5. State Highway Administration contractor Francis O. Day, of Rockville, will perform the work on MD 5.

The State Highway Administration appreciates customers’ patience during this necessary work to maintain and improve the transportation system. Drivers are asked to stay alert, stay focused, look for reduced speed limits as well as driving pattern changes and slow down in construction zones.
