Project Enhances Safety and Traffic Flow for Cambridge Motorists
(June 24, 2025) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration has activated a new traffic signal at the MD 343 (Washington Street)/Dorchester Avenue intersection in Cambridge.
Installation of the $250,000 signal included placement of a countdown and accessible pedestrian signal on the west leg of the intersection. State Highway Administration traffic analysis determined a traffic signal with pedestrian crossing and marked crosswalks was necessary to ensure safety for customers.
Nearly 11,000 vehicles use this section of Washington Street each day. Motorists, pedestrians and cyclists are urged to familiarize themselves with the operation of the new traffic signal.
The State Highway Administration works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as customers. Motorists are asked to stay alert, stay focused and be aware of reduced speed limits and changing driving patterns. Slow down and move over in work zones. It’s the law.
Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
