(August 4, 2025) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will temporarily close and detour two interchange ramps at the I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) / MD 122 (Security Boulevard) interchange for four weekends as weather permits for construction work at the interchange beginning Friday. The work is weather permitting.

The State Highway Administration and its contractor, Concrete General, Inc. of Gaithersburg, have scheduled the ramp work for four weekends, excluding the Labor Day holiday weekend.

  • 9 p.m. Friday night, August 8 – 5 a.m. Monday, August 11
  • 9 p.m. Friday night, August 15 – 5 a.m. Monday, August 18
  • 9 p.m. Friday night, August 22 – 5 a.m. Monday, August 25
  • 9 p.m. Friday night, September 5 - 5 a.m. Monday, September 8

During those hours, motorists can expect closures and ramp detours posted at two of the interchange ramps:

Crews will use temporary portable digital message boards, traffic signs, and reflective barrels to direct motorists through the interchange work zone and ramp detour routes.

The State Highway Administration advises all travelers to plan for extra travel time on MD 122 and I-695 within the interchange area and to look ahead for other travelers following temporary detour routes.

In case of inclement weather, the work and ramp closures will take place on the next possible weekend, except the Labor Day holiday weekend (August 29 – September 1).

The weekend work is part of the State Highway Administration’s $186 million I-695 Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSMO) project to reduce congestion along the west and north sides of the Baltimore Beltway, from the I-70 Triple Bridges interchange to east of MD 43 (White Marsh Boulevard).

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
