(May 22, 2026) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration has issued permits to WSSC Water to replace water mains at the MD 337 (Allentown Road)/Old Branch Avenue intersection and at the MD 223 (Piscataway Road) at Brandywine Road intersection. Both water main replacement projects will begin as soon as Tuesday, May 26, and will be completed by the end of August, weather permitting.

Drivers can expect overnight single- and double-lane closures on both Allentown Road and Piscataway Road from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays. Motorists should allow extra driving time during work hours or seek alternate routes.

Work includes WSSC Water constructing a 30-inch water transmission main in Old Branch Avenue. The work on Allentown Road is the connection of the new water main to an existing water main in Allentown Road.

The State Highway Administration’s permittee, WSSC of Laurel, will use concrete barriers, electronic message signs, cones, and barrels to guide drivers safely through the work zone.

The State Highway Administration is Serious About Safety. Pedestrians and motorists are urged to remain alert and avoid distractions when traveling through the work zone. Motorists should obey all posted speed limits and Move Over if possible. Motorists can dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
