Drivers Should Plan Extra Drive Time Traveling in Each Direction of I-70
(August 13, 2026) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will have an overnight lane closure in both directions of I-70 between approaching Saint Paul Road in Washington County on Monday, August 17, for eastbound and Tuesday, August 18, for westbound to allow crews to perform a traffic shift. This work will allow crews to shift traffic to the left lane to allow work to proceed on the bridge. It will remain in that configuration for the next several months. The process of shifting traffic will begin at 8 p.m. and be completed by 5 a.m.
Motorists should plan extra travel time during work. The State Highway Administration’s contractor, Triton construction, Inc. of St. Alban, WV., will use signs, construction barrels and cones to guide motorists through the work zone.
The State Highway Administration is Serious About Safety. Pedestrians and motorists are urged to remain alert, avoid distractions and move over if possible, when traveling through the work zone. Motorists should obey all posted speed limits. Motorists can dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
