​Roadwork Expected to Cause Delays for Three Weeks 

(September 23, 2026) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration is alerting motorists of a road widening project on MD 589 (Racetrack Road) at US 50 (Ocean Gateway) that will lead to lane closures starting Monday, September 28. The work, which will cause intermittent single-lane closures, is associated with the Coastal Square commercial development. This portion of the project is expected to be complete within three weeks, weather permitting.  

Starting Monday, the developer’s contractor, Reynolds Excavating of Princess Anne, will work between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday. The contractor will use flagging operations, variable message signs, arrow boards, and cones to safely guide motorists through the work zone. 

The widening includes the acceleration and deceleration lanes on US 50 at MD 589 and will require intermittent single lane closures along MD 589 between US 50 and MD 707 (Grays Corner Road). Additionally, motorists can expect single lane closures on the westbound right lane and deceleration lane of US 50, from Brader Lane to MD 589, in Berlin.
