Motorists Should Expect Nighttime Detours Starting Monday, October 19
(October 15, 2026) –The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will temporarily close and detour the outer loop (westbound) I-495 ramp to northbound MD 650 (New Hampshire Avenue) for construction work related to the MD 650 Pedestrian Safety Action Plan project. The work will begin October 19 and will last approximately two weeks, weather permitting.
The temporary ramp closure and detour will be in effect until the work is complete. Drivers will be guided to exit 28A toward White Oak and be detoured around the weigh station onto the outer loop (westbound) I-495 to access northbound MD 650.
The State Highway Administration’s contractor Brawner Builders, Inc., of Hunt Valley, will use detour signs and portable digital message signs to guide motorists through the work zone.
The State Highway Administration is
Serious About Safety. Pedestrians and motorists are urged to remain alert and avoid distractions when traveling through the work zone. Motorists should obey all posted speed limits. Motorists can dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
