Project will Improve Stormwater Management, Address Roadway Undermining

(October 19, 2026) –The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will repair stormwater management facilities under MD 33 (Bay Street), between MD 322 (Easton Parkway) and Hammond Street in Easton beginning Monday, October 26. The work is expected to last for approximately two weeks, weather permitting.

Work includes excavation, removal of deteriorated pipes and structures, installation of new reinforced concrete pipe and precast inlet structures, and reconstruction of the curb, gutter and roadway.

Drivers can expect single-lane closures with lane shifts and flagging weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. While work may briefly impact access to and from Hammond St., SHA will maintain access to all homes and businesses throughout construction.

This project will restore proper stormwater management along this busy section of MD 33. Because the work area is adjacent to an historic African American cemetery dating to the 1800s, SHA will have an archaeologist onsite to monitor the excavation work.

The State Highway Administration is Serious About Safety. Pedestrians and motorists are urged to remain alert and avoid distractions when traveling through the work zone. Motorists should obey all posted speed limits. Motorists can dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
