(June 22, 2009) - Tomorrow, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will temporarily close the right lane along the westbound US 50 (Ocean Gateway) bridge over US 301 (Blue Star Memorial Highway) to patch concrete on the fly-over ramp. The right lane of the two-lane ramp will be closed beginning at 8 a.m. Tuesday, June 23 until 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, weather permitting. The lane closure is necessary for crews to safely patch a section of the concrete bridge deck, which is the driving surface of the bridge.

Although most resort traffic will be using the eastbound lanes along US 50, which will be unaffected by the construction work, motorists planning to commute from points east toward the Chesapeake Bay Bridge along westbound US 50 will likely encounter delays. SHA will reopen lanes as soon as safely possible.

SHA will use dynamic message signs, cones and barrels to guide motorists through the work zone. The State’s contractor for the road repair is Allied Contractors of Baltimore. Citizens who have questions about traffic operations along US 50, US 301 or other State numbered routes in Queen Anne’s County may call SHA’s District 2 Office at 410-810-3200 or toll free at 1-800-637-9740.

SHA encourages all motorists to drive responsibly and “Think Orange” while driving through highway work zones by driving the speed limit and remaining alert at all times. Learn more about work zone safety and the Choose Safety for Life campaign at www.choosesafetyforlife.com.
