BALTIMORE, MD -- As the opening of the first segment of the Intercounty Connector (ICC)/MD 200 nears, the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) has partnered with the Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) to open two full-service E-ZPass Stop-in Centers within the Beltsville and Gaithersburg MVA Branch Offices.

“We’re now bringing E-ZPass services directly to the local communities in Prince George’s and Montgomery counties within the ICC corridor,” said Acting MDTA Executive Secretary Harold M. Bartlett.  “By partnering with the MVA, area residents now have the convenience of opening their E-ZPass accounts where they already access other vehicle and driver services.  Getting E-ZPass is just as EZ as using it on the ICC, our State’s first all-electronic toll highway.”

E-ZPass is also available on-line by visiting www.ezpassmd.com to open an account and receive a transponder via U.S. mail.

The new E-ZPass Stop-in Centers are open from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday, excluding State holidays, at the following locations:
MVA Beltsville Branch Office, 11760 Baltimore Avenue, Station 43/44.
MVA Gaithersburg Branch Office, 15 Metropolitan Grove Road.

At these Stop-in Centers, both individual and business customers are able to:
• Open new E-ZPass accounts and make payments.
• Receive E-ZPass applications and information.
• Review account status and update their accounts.
• Request additional transponders.

For information on E-ZPass, visit ezpassmd.com or call 1-888-321-6824.  The cost to open an individual E-ZPass account is $46 -- $25 in pre-paid tolls and a $21 transponder charge.  Account payments may be made by cash, check or automatic credit-card replenishment.  A $1.50 service charge is applied monthly to all E-ZPass accounts for account-maintenance services.

Traveling the ICC without a valid E-ZPass will result in a Notice of Toll Due being sent to the registered owner of the vehicle.  The notice will include the charge for the toll, plus a $3 Notice of Toll Due service charge per transaction. Visit www.mdta.maryland.gov/TollFacilities/ICC.html for ICC toll rates and pricing periods and information on ICC operations.

The first 5.5-mile segment of the ICC between I-370 at Shady Grove and MD 97 (Georgia Avenue) in Rockville/Olney is expected to open late 2010/early 2011.
The State Highway Administration (SHA) is managing ICC construction.  Once construction is complete, the MDTA will own, operate and maintain the ICC.
