(July 27, 2012) – This weekend, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) is patching concrete pavement on the inner loop of I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) ramp to southbound I-97 in northern Anne Arundel County. SHA must repair the concrete that was damaged from extreme heat in early July; otherwise, the pavement will continue to deteroriate and impact driver safety.

SHA is closing one a lane at a time starting Friday, July 27 at 9 p.m. through 5 a.m. Monday, July 30, weather permitting.  Crews will be in the work zone at various times throughout the weekend to pour and set sections of concrete pavement.  Even though crews may not be present, one of the ramp lanes will be closed until the concrete is cured and able to adequately withstand highway traffic.

To avoid delays, drivers may use southbound I-95 to MD 100 or   MD 2 (Ritchie Highway) as alternate routes.

“SHA asks that drivers plan ahead and exercise patience when traveling this weekend,” said SHA District Engineer Lee Starkloff. “Taking alternate routes is the best travel option for drivers as we make these necessary repairs.”

SHA awarded the contract to Concrete General, Inc. of Gaithersburg.   Those who have questions about this project and others along State-maintained routes in Anne Arundel County may call the SHA District 5 Office at 410-841-1000 or toll-free at 1-800-331-5603.

While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer driving and safer work zones benefit everyone.
