(April 3, 2013) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) is now restricting left turns for motorists traveling south on Main Street (MD 765A) south of downtown Prince Frederick onto MD 2/4 (Solomons Island Road).

An SHA evaluation determined that restricting the left turn and through movements from Main Street is necessary to alleviate congestion in the MD 2/4 median and improve safety at the intersection.  Motorists turning from MD 2/4 onto Main Street will be unaffected by this change.

SHA maintenance crews have restriped the MD 765 approach and installed signage advising motorists of the new turning restriction.  A variable message sign is also in place, alerting motorists of the new traffic pattern.  On average, 32,000 vehicles travel this portion of MD 2/4 and 4,200 vehicles travel Main Street each day.

SHA urges motorists to exercise caution while driving through work zones.  Slow down, cooperate with other motorists during merges, and always be alert for changing conditions.  Call 511 or log onto www.MD511.org for traffic information.  Follow SHA on Twitter @MDSHA and like our www.facebook.com/MarylandStateHighwayAdministration.
