(May 28, 2013) – Left turns will be prohibited at the intersection of MD 140 and Sullivan Road in Carroll County for at least a few more days as the State Highway Administration (SHA) replaces a traffic signal that was struck over the weekend.

“We are working to replace the signal as quickly as possible, but the timeframe for the repair will depend on the availability of a replacement traffic signal pole,” SHA District Engineer David Coyne said. “If necessary, crews will construct a temporary traffic signal until materials for the permanent signal are available. We appreciate everyone’s patience over the next few days.”

Until a replacement signal is activated, the median of MD 140 will be closed to cross-traffic at the intersection. Drivers on MD 140 may turn only right at Sullivan Road, and drivers on Sullivan Road may only turn right onto MD 140. The remaining traffic signals are set to flashing yellow for traffic on MD 140 and flashing red for traffic on Sullivan Road.

Eastbound traffic on MD 140 may make a U-Turn at Englar Road to access Sullivan Road north of MD 140. Westbound traffic on MD 140 may take the exit for MD 97 North and bear left at the fork, then turn left onto Pennsylvania Avenue to reach the Sullivan Road area south of MD 140. Another option for westbound traffic is to turn left at Englar Road, then right on Monroe Street. Drivers should exercise caution and allow extra travel time in the area.

Customers with questions about traffic operations on MD 140 or other State numbered routes in Carroll County may call SHA’s District 7 Office at 301-624-8100, or toll-free at 800-635-5119.
