(May 28, 2013) – The State Highway Administration (SHA) advises motorists in Washington County that flagging operations will be in place Wednesday, May 29, on both Alternate US 40 (Old National Pike) and Poffenberger Road in Washington County due to road work. Motorists should expect delays and consider alternate routes.

Lane closures will begin at 6 a.m. Wednesday and continue around the clock to allow crews to reconstruct a portion of Old National Pike to lower the crest of a hill several inches to improve sight distance. The work is expected to continue for up to to two days.

In conjuntion with the recent relocation of the Poffenberger Road intersection approximately 250 feet to the west, lowering the crest of the hill will improve safety at the intersection by extending the sight distance for turning vehicles. The intersection relocation was a joint project by SHA and Washington County.

Customers with questions about the project or traffic operations on other state numbered routes in Washington County may contact SHA’s District 6 Office at 301-729-8400, or toll-free at 800-760-7138.
