What:
Next week, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will hold an informational public meeting about the project to replace the MD 261 (Bayside Road) Bridge over Fishing Creek in Calvert County.  The project will be advertised for bids this fall, and work is scheduled to begin in spring 2014.

SHA engineers will be available to answer questions about the project.  Display areas will show the anticipated operational and safety improvements for the project.  Those in attendance will be able to learn more about traffic plans during construction.  No formal presentation will be given; attendees may arrive at any time and walk through at their own pace.

When:
Tuesday, June 4 between 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Where:
Northeast Community Center, Mini-Gym, 4075 Gordon Stinnett Avenue
Chesapeake Beach, MD

Why:
The existing two-lane bridge was constructed in 1940 and is in need of replacement.  The project is part of SHA’s system preservation program.  Crews will replace the deteriorating bridge, improve the opening beneath the bridge by raising the bridge during construction, and increase the width of the bridge to provide a safer travel area.

The new bridge will be raised approximately four feet to provide increased vertical clearance over the creek.  It will also include ADA-compliant sidewalks.

The community center is an accessible facility and parking is adjacent. Anyone in need of translation or other accommodation should contact SHA in advance of the meeting.

Information:
Project information is available on the SHA website (www.roads.maryland.gov) or by contacting Mr. Jeff Robert, SHA Project Manager, SHA Office of Structures, 707 North Calvert Street, Mail Stop C-203, Baltimore, MD 21202 or by calling 410-545-8327 (toll-free 1-888-375-1084) or e-mail at jrobert@sha.state.md.us.
