(July 12, 2013) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) advises motorists to expect nightime flagging and lane closures on MD 32 north of I-70 in Howard County starting Sunday, July 14, for paving operations.

SHA will mill, patch, overlay and restripe approximately one mile of MD 32 between the Park and Ride just north of the I-70 interchange and  Emory Farm Lane. Weather permitting, the project will be completed by fall.

Motorists should anticipate single-lane closures, lane shifts and flagging between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. on weeknights. SHA will use flaggers, signs, barrels, cones and arrow panels to guide motorists through the work zone. Motorists should allow extra time, stay alert and use caution in the work zone. This section of MD 32 has an average daily traffic volume of about 23,000 vehicles.

SHA’s contractor for the $850,000  project is P. Flanigan and Sons, Inc. Anyone with questions about traffic operations on MD 32 or other State numbered routes in Howard County may contact SHA’s District 7 office at 301-624-8100 or toll-free at 800-635-5119, or by email at SHADistrict7@sha.state.md.us

While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
