(July 18, 2013) – Beginning at  9 p.m. Sunday, July 21 the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will replace deteriorating pipes under MD 575 (Worcester Highway) at Crippen Branch, located immediately south of MD 90 (Ocean City Expressway) in Worcester County.  Two new concrete culverts will be installed and a small section of MD 575 will be resurfaced.  All work is scheduled to be completed by noon Friday, July 26, weather permitting.

As part of SHA’s system preservation program, two existing corrugated metal pipes will be replaced with two reinforced concrete pipes.  The newly constructed concrete culvert will minimize the potential for roadway flooding.

SHA will establish separate detours on MD 575 for both northbound and southbound motorists approaching the culvert replacement.

Motorists wishing to travel northbound on MD 575 heading toward MD 90 will be detoured to a left onto Carey Road, a right on US 113, then back to MD 575, which connects north of MD 90.

Motorists wishing to travel southbound on MD 575 from MD 589 will be detoured onto MD 589 (Racetrack Road) to a right on US 50 to a right on MD 452 (Seahawk Road), which connects back with MD 575 south of the road closure.

SHA awarded the $300,000 contract for the project to David A. Bramble, Inc., of Chestertown.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Safer driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
