UPDATE (August 8, 2013) -1 p.m.

The transformer move on MD 97 and associated detours have been canceled for this weekend due to a discrepancy in the weight of the load that will require additional planning and analysis. The move will be rescheduled for a later date.

(August 7, 2013) – Motorists on MD 97 (Littlestown Pike) between Westminster and Littlestown, Pa., will encounter temporary detours throughout the day on Sunday, August 11, due to an oversize load traveling through the area. Motorists should plan ahead to allow extra time and consider alternate routes.

The oversize load, a 370,000-pound power transformer destined for Pennsylvania, will depart Westminster at 6 a.m. Sunday morning and slowly travel north to Gettysburg on MD 97, crossing the Pennsylvania state line at about 6 a.m. Monday morning.

Due to the size and weight of the load, special equipment will be installed on several bridges between Westminster and Littlestown ahead of the load and removed after the transformer is across each bridge. While this bridge equipment is in place, through traffic in both directions on MD 97 will be detoured using MD 496 (Bachman Valley Road), MD 30 (Hanover Pike), PA 94 (Baltimore Pike) and PA 194 (Hanover Pike). Traffic control crews will be stationed at intersections along MD 97 to direct traffic around the closures and will allow local access for emergency vehicles and local traffic.

Motorists in Westminster should also expect delays on Hahn Road and Englar Road Sunday morning between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m.

Central Jersey Trucking and Rigging is conducting the move in coordination with HLI Rail & Rigging, LLC. For information and updates during the move, please call 603-617-6814.
