(August 19, 2013) – The State Highway Administration (SHA) closed the southbound lane of the MD 77 (Rocky Ridge Road) Bridge over Owens Branch in Thurmont, Frederick County today to make emergency roadway repairs. The lane will be closed 24 hours a day until 5 p.m. Thursday, August 22.  Flaggers are alternating traffic on the northbound lane for the duration of the repair.

Crews were making routine repairs and noticed significant soil erosion and a void adjacent to the bridge.  The three-day, 24-hour closure is required to make a permanent repair, which consists of backfilling and new concrete work.    There is an average of 2,000 vehicles travel along MD 77 between MD 550 (Sabillasville Road) and MD 76 (Motters Station Road) each day.  Motorists should plan extra travel time during the road repair.

SHA’s contractor, PDI Sheetz of Linthicum, will complete the work, which is estimated to cost $25,000.

While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For Everyone!
