(September 20, 2013) – Beginning tonight at 9 p.m., the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will perform maintenance on the Inner Loop I-495 (southbound I-95) (Capital Beltway) from Arena Drive to south of Ritchie Marlboro Road. Weather permitting, the work should be complete by noon on Saturday, September 21.

SHA will apply a layer of asphalt to the driving surface of the Capital Beltway. To complete the work, SHA will close one lane of I-95/I-495 at 9 p.m., two lanes and 10 p.m. and three lanes at midnight.  More than 210,000 vehicles travel along this portion of the Capital Beltway in Prince George’s County daily.  Overnight commuters can use US 301 (Crain Highway) to MD 4 (Pennsylvania Avenue) to I-95 to avoid delays.

As crews work to keep work zones safe, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For Everyone!
