(September 23, 2013) – Beginning 9 a.m., Tuesday, September 24, Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) and the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will close and detour the interchange ramp from eastbound I-70 to northbound Security Boulevard (MD 122) 24 hours a day for approximately six weeks.  The temporary ramp closure will allow BGE crews to safely relocate an underground gas line in preparation for the Maryland Transit Administration’s (MTA) Red Line project.  Weather permitting; the ramp will reopen late October.

While the detour is in effect, motorists traveling from eastbound I-70 to northbound Security Boulevard and the Social Security Administration complex will drive past the ramp to the end of I-70, turn around at the Park and Ride lot onto westbound I-70, and turn right at the first ramp to reach northbound Security Boulevard.

SHA advises motorists traveling in the Woodlawn area of Baltimore County to anticipate delays and plan ahead for extra travel time.  For more information about the BGE gas utility relocation work, citizens may contact BGE through its website, www.bge.com or by phone toll-free 1-800-685-0123.  For more information about the MTA Red Line, citizens may call 443-451-3707 or visit the Red Line website at www.baltimoreredline.com.

This project was made possible with funding from the Transportation Infrastructure Investment Act of 2013, which maintains crucial system preservation investments and allows Maryland to activate long-term strategies to invest in Maryland’s transportation systems. By putting people back to work in the transportation industry with $4.4 billion in new investments in the next six years, Maryland is creating hundreds of millions of dollars in economic activity and providing Marylanders with the transportation infrastructure necessary to grow and prosper for decades to come.
