(September 30, 2013) –Overnight maintenance on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge (WWB) begins tonight, September 30 and will continue at night through Wednesday, October 2.  The openings of the bridge draw span will result in up to 15 minute total closures between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. each night.

For each of the next three nights, work crews from the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will open and close the bridge several times during this six-hour period to test the gate, barriers and other components of the bridge.  Motorists traveling during those times are encouraged to add extra travel time.

The bridge work is being performed as part of a joint venture between SHA and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

SHA encourages motorists to plan for extra commute time to avoid bridge maintenance delays. As crews work to keep work zones safe, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For Everyone!
