(October 11, 2013) – Earlier today, crews closed the two left lanes of northbound MD 295 (Baltimore-Washington Parkway) in northern Anne Arundel County for emergency pavement repairs.  The lane closures allowed a crew to safely patch the pavement using a temporary “cold-mix” and the lanes are now open to traffic.

This afternoon, SHA will close the two left lanes again for a contractor to make a more permanent repair and plans to open the lanes before the evening commute. The closure will extend between I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) and the Baltimore County line along MD 295.

After the evening rush hour, crews will close the far right lane of northbound MD 295 and the Inner Loop I-695 ramp to northbound MD 295. The crews will perform the same patch work and will remain at the site throughout the night until all pavement work is complete, weather permitting.

Drivers are advised to use US 1 or I-95 to reach the Baltimore area to avoid travel delays.  In addition, thousands of visitors are expected in the area this weekend for sporting events.  SHA will use overhead message signs to provide traffic information should the repair work extend beyond Saturday morning.

The pavement repairs are located in a section of MD 295 that is part of the $6.9 million areawide patching and resurfacing project for northern Anne Arundel County. As crews work to keep work zones safe, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For Everyone!
