(April 8, 2014) – This week, the State Highway Administration (SHA) begins resurfacing MD 26 (Liberty Road) between the Liberty Reservoir Bridge and Liberty Ridge Court in Baltimore County. The $600,000 project will improve safety and ride quality along nearly one mile of Liberty Road, which carries an average of 19,000 vehicles per day.

Crews will use a flagging operation to alternate traffic on the two-lane road, creating a safe work zone to repair and resurface the pavement. Daytime lane closures are permitted Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and on Saturdays between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m.

SHA’s contractor is Gray and Son, Inc. of Timonium. SHA and the contractor urge drivers to plan for extra time when traveling on this section of Liberty Road and to drive with extra caution through the work zone. Weather permitting, the project will be complete early summer 2014.

Citizens who have questions about highway maintenance on MD 26 or any other State highway in Baltimore or Harford counties may contact SHA’s District 4 Office in Hunt Valley at 410-229-2360, toll-free at 1-866-998-0367 or by e-mail: shadistrict4@sha.state.md.us.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely.  Drivers, passengers as well as workers are at risk. Safer driving. Safer work zones. For everyone!
