(May 9, 2014) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) is planning to close and detour MD 36 (Mt. Savage Road NW) beginning Tuesday, May 13. The daytime total closure is necessary for crews to install new drainage pipes across MD 36 at three locations. Weather permitting; all work should be completed by Friday, May 16.

The temporary closures will occur each day from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m.  Traffic entering and existing Mt. Savage will be detoured to Iron Rail Street and back to MD 36. SHA crews will re-open MD 36 by 4 p.m. each day.

The drainage improvements are part of an $840,000 project to resurface MD 36 between “The Castle” in Mt. Savage and the Jennings Run Bridge (north of the Masonic Lodge).  The entire resurfacing project will be completed by August, weather permitting. SHA’s contractor for the project is Belt Paving of Cumberland.

While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify their driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
