(May 8, 2014) -- The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) and Jefferson Park Development, Inc. advise motorists to be prepared for delays on US 340/US 15 southwest of Frederick during the overnight hours next week due to construction. As part of an ongoing project by the developer of the Jefferson Technology Park to construct a new interchange on US 340/US 15 between I-70 and Mount Zion Road, crews will be installing steel beams for a new bridge over US 15/US 340, requiring traffic on US 15/US 340 to be stopped for approximately 15 minute intervals three to four times each night for several days.

These temporary roadway closures will occur between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. beginning Sunday night, May 11, and ending by Friday morning, May 16. Work will begin with the southbound/westbound side, then switch to the northbound/eastbound lanes later in the week. Motorists should allow for extra time or consider alternate routes.

For more information about the interchange construction project, please visit http://www.jefferson-place-md.com/bridgeupdate.html.

While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
