(September 5, 2014) – The right lane of eastbound I-70 will be closed at the I-70 bridge over MD 63 (Greencastle Pike) from 4 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 8, Tuesday, Sept. 9, and Friday, Sept. 12, weather permitting, as part of an ongoing Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) bridge replacement project.

The lane closures will allow crews to pour the new concrete bridge deck (driving surface) for the final section of the new bridge. In the event of inclement weather, the work may be rescheduled. Motorists traveling east through the work zone during peak morning hours should allow extra time in case of delays.

The work is part of a $14 million bridge replacement project that began in December 2012. Click here for more information about the project.  The project is nearing completion, and SHA anticipates opening the full westbound bridge to traffic by late  September and opening the full eastbound bridge by late October. Some final paving work on I-70 will be completed in the spring.

While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
