(September 12, 2014) -  The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) invites you to help us STUFF A TRUCK with donations for the Maryland Food Bank in Pasadena this weekend. Stop by the AutoZone at 2707 Mountain Road on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to drop-off your non-perishable food donations. With your help we can STUFF A TRUCK to help fight hunger. This special event supports the agency-wide food drive underway during Hunger Action Month.

Donations are also being accepted at numerous SHA facilities during business hours, on weekdays, through September 26th. To find the nearest drop-off location, visit SHA’s online map at http://geodata.md.gov/imaptemplate/?appid=14f72a16f0b54534b5f1414e96920de2. You will also find drop-off locations for our partners in this food drive including the Maryland Department of Transportation and the Maryland State Police.

Throughout September, food banks across the nation are rallying to raise awareness and inspire action against hunger, an issue affecting an estimated 50 million Americans. Nearly 780,000 Marylanders experience food insecurity, and 38 percent in the Maryland Food Bank’s service area earn “too much” to receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program food assistance benefits.

About the Maryland Food Bank

The Maryland Food Bank is a nonprofit hunger-relief organization, leading the movement to end hunger throughout Maryland. For more than thirty years, the Maryland Food Bank has partnered with communities across the state to distribute food to individuals and families in need. Through carefully-crafted programs, the food bank aims to meet the immediate needs of Marylanders while simultaneously working to find long term ways to reduce hunger statewide. Currently distributing 75,000 meals per day – more than 27 million meals annually – the Maryland Food Bank will continue to expand its efforts until hunger ends.

The Maryland Food Bank has three distribution centers located in downtown Baltimore, Salisbury, and Hagerstown. Through an extensive network of soup kitchens, pantries, schools and other community-based organizations, food is distributed throughout 22 counties, including Baltimore City, and Somerset, Wicomico, and Washington counties – some of the most food-insecure regions in Maryland.
