(September 29, 2014) – On Tuesday night, September.30, weather permitting, the ramp from Mason Dixon Road to southbound I-81 at the Maryland-Pennsylvania border will be closed for paving.  A detour will be in place between 9 p.m. Tuesday and 5 a.m. Wednesday for alternative access onto southbound I-81.

Detour signs will direct motorists to go east on Mason Dixon Road, turn right onto southbound US 11 (Pennsylvania Avenue) and continue for approximately 1.5 miles, then turn right onto Showalter Road, and drive .8 miles to the ramp from Showalter Road to southbound I-81.

The ramp paving will be completed by C. William Hetzer, Inc. as part of an areawide paving contract with the Maryland State Highway Administration that also includes patching in various locations along I-81 and patching or resurfacing various state routes throughout Washington County.

While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
