(October 1, 2014) – The State Highway Administration (SHA) will repair and resurface pavement on MD 648 (Annapolis Road) from the bridge over Holly Creek to near the Arbutus Avenue/Violet Avenue intersection in Lansdowne. The $760,000 project will improve safety and ride quality along this 1.5 mile section of MD 648, which carries 11,000 vehicles per day.

Between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, crews will use temporary lane closures, flagging operations and implement lane shifts to control traffic and create a safe work zone. SHA and the contractor, Gray and Son, Inc. of Timonium, advise drivers to plan for extra travel time when traveling on MD 648 in Lansdowne and to drive with caution in the highway work zone.  If weather permits, the entire highway maintenance project will be complete late fall 2014.

Citizens who have questions about highway construction on MD 648 or any other State highway in Baltimore or Harford counties may contact SHA’s District 4 Office – Maintenance Division in Hunt Valley at 410-229-2360, toll-free at 1-866-998-0367 or by e-mail: shadistrict4@sha.state.md.us.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Drivers, passengers as well as workers are at risk. Safer driving. Safer work zones. For everyone!
