(February 3, 2015) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will close the two right lanes of southbound I-95 prior to exit 38 (MD 32) in Howard County at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 4, for  bridge repairs.

SHA advises motorists that the closure could extend into the evening commute and advises drivers to consider alternate routes and use the free 511 travel information service for updates on the closure status before traveling Wednesday evening. The service is available online at md511.org or by dialing 511 from your hands-free device.

The double-lane closure will allow crews to repair a puncture in the deck, or driving surface, of the I-95 bridge over CSX Railroad, just prior to MD 32. Crews have temporarily repaired the area, but permanent repairs are needed to prevent further deterioration.  It is  necessary to complete this work during daytime hours due to the warmer temperatures needed to pour concrete.

During the closure, the right two lanes will be closed with two left lanes open. Traffic exiting onto MD 32 will need to continue past the work zone, then move right to exit.

While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
