(July 14, 2015) – Starting Friday night at 9 p.m. (weather permitting), the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will temporarily close lanes at the I-95/I-495 (Capital Beltway) / Ritchie Marlboro Road interchange in Prince George’s County.

During the weekends of July 17 and July 24, SHA will close lanes on the I-95/I-495 inner and outer loops at Ritchie Marlboro Road on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights with a single left lane at 9 p.m., two lanes at 10 p.m. and three lanes at 11 p.m.  Crews will maintain two open lanes in each direction during the day on Saturday and Sunday. All lanes will open to traffic no later than 5 a.m. Monday.

Crews will also close one lane in each direction of Ritchie Marlboro Road between 9 p.m. Friday and noon on Saturday for two consecutive weekends with possible intermittent total traffic stoppages of up to 15 minutes to protect motorists and work crews and to move construction equipment into place.

SHA will repair concrete at a bridge joint on the I-95/I-495 span over Ritchie Marlboro Road. The need for the repair was discovered as part of the $12 million safety and resurfacing project on I-95/I-495 between D’Arcy Road and Arena Drive. SHA’s plan to make the repair has been delayed due to weather.

In addition to this project, drivers may also encounter mobile or short-term work zones. Click here for a listing of major SHA projects in Maryland.  Always expect the unexpected, pay extra close attention and drive slowly through any work zone. Whether it’s a tree trimming operation or a bridge project, be aware when orange is there: Think Orange (the color of construction equipment and signs), stay alert and slow down. Everyone is at risk.
