Temporary Detour and Closure Begin Monday

(November 13, 2015) – On Monday, November 16, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin a repair on MD 194 (Woodsboro Pike) at MD 550 (Woodsboro/Creagerstown Road) in Woodsboro, Frederick County.

A small depression at this location could become a huge problem if left untreated and allowed to become a sinkhole. Frederick County is susceptible to sinkholes due to the Limestone Karst topography that is prevalent in this region. An SHA staff member noticed the depression and contacted the Engineering Geology Division to take a look. The Engineering Geology Division representative determined that although a sinkhole is not immediately imminent, SHA will need to stabilize the depression and monitor the intersection over the weekend.

The SHA contractor, Concrete Protection and Restoration of Baltimore, will pump concrete grout into the voids, to stabilize the subsurface. The repairs will be completed by Thanksgiving; weather permitting.
