SHA TO TEMPORARILY CLOSE I-695 IN EASTERN BALTIMORE COUNTY FOR BRIDGE REHABILITATION

Temporary Detours on I-695 North at Exit 38, MD 150 on Friday Night, November 20 and Saturday Night, November 21

(October 19, 2015) – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) is moving forward on its $5.3 million bridge rehabilitation project on I-695 North (Baltimore Beltway Outer Loop/Windlass Freeway) over the Northeast Creek tributary of the Back River. The bridge is located on the outer loop of I-695 near MD 702 in Essex.

This weekend, contractor crews will remove two old steel girders from the right side of the bridge, with one girder removed each night.  To ensure the safety of drivers and contractor crews, the bridge will be closed to all traffic the outer loop of I-695 will temporarily be detoured at Exit 38, MD 150 (Eastern Boulevard) between 10 p.m. Friday, November 20 and 6 a.m. Saturday, November 21 and again between 10 p.m. Saturday, November 21 and 6 a.m. Sunday, November 22.

The Maryland State Police will assist with the closure and detour.  Motorists will proceed on eastbound MD 150 through Essex to northbound MD 702and then back onto the outer loop of the Beltway. SHA and its contractor will use digital message boards, temporary traffic signs, and barrels to guide motorists on the Outer Loop through the detour route.
