(December 15, 2015) – Looking to take advantage of unseasonably mild late fall temperatures, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin final resurfacing on more than one mile of MD 182 (Layhill Road) between Park Vista Drive and Chester Mill Road in Silver Spring/Aspen Hill. Weather permitting; the work could be complete as early as the end of the year. The original project resurfacing completion date was late spring 2016.

This week, crews began roadway patching on all lanes of Layhill Road.  Once patching is completed, crews will pave and apply new pavement markings.

SHA may close one lane in both directions of MD 182 weekdays between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. through the end of the project. Once all resurfacing is complete, crews may perform all remaining project activity that is not expected to impact traffic lanes.  Crews will use arrow boards, cones and barrels to guide motorists through the work zone.

Residents and travelers are advised that construction equipment can be loud and disruptive. Click here for overall project information.

SHA asks for your patience as crews work to complete the project. Motorists are urged to use caution through the work zone. For the latest real-time traffic information, please visit www.md511.org or call 1-855-466-3511 using a hands-free device.
