Turn Lane, Median Improvements Support Major Salisbury University Project

(June 29, 2016) – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) has begun reconfiguring and extending several turn lanes on US 13 Business (S. Salisbury Boulevard) at Salisbury University in Wicomico County.  These improvements will facilitate access to the University’s new Patricia R. Guerrieri Academic Commons (GAC) building and enhance safety and traffic flow in conjunction with additional planned Salisbury University campus renovations.

Work includes:

• Extending the current left turn lane from northbound US 13 Business to West College Avenue.

• Extending the current left turn lane from southbound US 13 Business to Bateman Street.

• Relocating the Salisbury University “Lot-A” entrance to accommodate the new GAC.

• Resurfacing US 13 Business from West College Avenue to Dogwood Drive.

• Restriping to include bicycle lanes.

• Median improvements/landscaping.

Motorists should expect lane closures and traffic shifts throughout the project.  All work should be complete by early 2017.

SHA awarded the construction contract to David A. Bramble of Chestertown.  Project cost is $2.2 million. An average of 22,500 vehicles travel this stretch of US 13 Business each day.  See maps below for work location.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands.

A complete listing of current roadway projects is included in e-Road Ready 2016, the online brochure. Maryland drivers can also know before they go by calling 511 or visiting www.md511.org for live traffic updates, including construction delays and lane closures.
