Motorist should Expect Delays

(October 4, 2016) – Beginning 10 p.m. Friday, October 14, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will repair a collapsed drainage pipe under US 40 Alternate (Old National Pike) west of Marker Road in Middletown, Frederick County.  SHA expects to complete the repair by Sunday evening, October 16, weather permitting.

Crews will close US 40 Alternate just west of Marker Road to remove the existing pavement, repair the pipe and install new asphalt. Motorists should follow the signed detour.  Workers will establish a detour for westbound traffic left onto Marker Road then right onto Bolivar Road and back onto US 40 Alternate.  The detour for eastbound traffic will be right onto Bolivar Road then left onto Marker Road and back to US 40 Alt.

“Drivers should avoid this portion of US 40 Alternate, if possible,” said District Engineer Mark Crampton.  “Plan to use alternate routes and avoid traffic delays.  If you must drive in this area, SHA encourages motorists to allow for extra travel time.”

SHA awarded the $30,000 contract to Image Asphalt Maintenance Inc. of Pasadena.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands.

An updated listing of current roadway projects is included in e-Road Ready 2016, the online brochure. Maryland drivers can also know before they go by calling 511 or visiting www.md511.org for live traffic updates, including construction delays and lane closures.
