Daytime Paving Requires Single and Double Lane Closures; Drivers Advised to Plan Ahead

(October 28, 2016) – Beginning Monday morning, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will resurface MD 201 (Kenilworth Avenue) from the I-95/I-495 Capital Beltway on/off ramps to Cherrywood Lane in Greenbelt. Weather and progress permitting, the work should be complete by late fall. The work is part of  a $1 million area-wide resurfacing project.

SHA will close one lane at 9 a.m. and two lanes between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.  Crews will open all traffic lanes by 3 p.m. each day.  Crews will patch all traffic lanes and apply new asphalt and pavement markings.

SHA’s contractor, Allan Myers of Fallston, will use arrow boards and barrels to maintain at least one through lane of traffic at all times during the paving operations.  SHA is urging motorists to plan for extra commute time and consider alternate routes.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands.
