Drivers Should Plan Extra Travel Time in Jessup Next Weekend

(November 10, 2016) – On the weekend of November 18, Clark Construction Group, LLC and CSX Transportation will close the railroad bridge on MD 175 (Jessup Road) between Wigley Avenue and Dorsey Run Road in Jessup to repair and improve the structure.  MD 175 will be closed and traffic detoured beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, November 18 until 5 a.m. Monday, November 21, weather permitting.

Clark Construction Group and CSX Transportation will perform the following work:

• Raise the under clearance of the bridge;

• Repair structural steel;

• Repave the bridge approaches; and

• Improve drainage in the project area.

 

This work will extend the life of the structure and improve the ride quality for the nearly 20,000 motorists who use this section of MD 175 each day.  Although traffic volumes are lower on weekends, the road will need to be closed and motorists detoured to expedite the work. 

The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will assist CSX Transportation by establishing a detour using US 1 (Washington Boulevard) to MD 32 to MD 295 (Baltimore-Washington Parkway) to MD 175.  Motorists are encourage to build extra drive time during the repair and maintenance of the railroad bridge.

Drivers are encouraged to plan for additional travel time during the closure. Travelers may use Maryland’s 511 program at www.md511.org or by calling 511 to learn about construction-related lane closures and other traffic information.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Drivers, passengers as well as workers are at risk. Safer driving.
